The Belmont-Redwood Shores Sustainability Parent Group was nominated by RethinkWaste for the San Mateo County Office of Education Sustainable and Climate Resilient Schools Challenge award in April 2026. This award honors students, teachers, administrators, and community members across 12 public school districts, private schools, and local organizations for their dedicated environmental efforts. The 2025–2026 program celebrated leaders who implemented innovative waste-reduction and sustainability projects throughout San Mateo County schools.
Thanks to California’s Universal Meals Program, all public school children are guaranteed free breakfast and lunch, regardless of income. To prevent unserved food from going to the landfill, we've partnered with Peninsula Food Runners, a local non-profit food rescue organisation, to help collect and donate to local communities in need. BRSSPG volunteers help with the deliveries when Peninsula Food Runners are unavailable.
We’re launching Redwood Shores’ first Bike Bus - a fun and eco-friendly adult-led bicycle caravan designed to safely bring students to school. Scooters, skateboards, and roller skates are welcome too! Sign up today to be part of a movement that creates safer streets, stronger communities, and a healthier planet.
Plastic film is a widely used packaging material that is not accepted by many residential recycling collection services. We subscribe to Ridwell, a B Corp-certified recycling company specializing in collecting hard-to-recycle items and giving them a second life. Plastic film is collected and turned into decking material.
We'll be hosting a table at SchoolForce's Celebrate the Music Festival on April 26. Stop by to learn more about our group, how we support environmental initiatives, and ways families can get involved. We’d love to see you there!
