The Belmont Redwood Shores Sustainability Parent Group does the following to reduce the amount of waste going to our landfills:
Provide support to the school's Green teams - collecting and sorting waste at lunch.
Lead educational, hands-on activities with other community-based groups like the Girl scouts that emphasize the importance of composting and recycling to our environment.
Take tours of our local waste management facilities, like the Material Transfer Facilty, to better understand where our local waste, composting and recycling goes.
Distribute re-usable utensils and plates for school functions like hot chocolate day, party events, etc.
Collect mylar or aluminized foil drink pouches to sent to specific recyclers since Recology does not recycle them.
Distribute fresh, excess food from the schools to local members in our community.
