Current Projects
We're currently focused on these three initiatives aimed at improving environmentally sustainable practices at all seven of the schools in the Belmont Redwood Shores School District (BRSSD)
Composting and recycling
Thanks to state funding, over 3,900 children are offered free breakfast and lunch every day in the school district, regardless of their income. Our composting and waste reduction program diverts excess fresh food from the school to hungry people in the community and helps children sort their food waste by volunteering at lunch time at the schools.
Clean energy
BRSSD spends over $600K every year on electricity and heating. Our Clean Energy initiative seeks to replace the schools gas heaters with electric ones.
REducing Single Use Plastics
We work with the school food vendors and BRSSD to suggest alternatives to single-use plastics. Our goal is to ensure that each school has the appropriate facilities (e.g. sinks and dishwashers) to offer metal utensils and utilize more sustainable packaging with their food.
