Past Projects

The Belmont Redwood Shores Sustainability Parent Group is an avid proponent of reducing waste, reusing items, composting, and recycling. Some of our past projects include:

• Provide support to schools by collecting and sorting waste at mealtimes.
  
• Distribute fresh, excess food from the schools to local communities in need.  
• Collect and ship multi-layer plastic/foil food and drink pouches to a third party vendor to be recycled.
  
• Collect plastic film to be recycled into decking materials.
  
• Lend reusable utensils and dishes for school functions, such as hot chocolate day, classroom parties, PTA meetings, etc.
  
• Purchase trash grabbers, reusable gloves, and reusable buckets for sorting and cleanup events.
  
• Support and guide students in school-based environmental clubs. 
  
• Provide educational, hands-on activities, presentations and assemblies to classrooms, schools, and community-based groups.
  
• Educate others on how to reduce the amount of waste going to our landfills.
  
• Take tours of our local waste management facilities to better understand where our local compost, recyclables and trash go.
